Omega Watches Value and Benefits

Omega watches are known for retaining their value for a long time. A big part of this is due to co-axial escapement. Assisted by the success of caliber 2500, Omega developed the first mass-production time-piece that incorporated a coaxial escapement. Invented by George Daniels, a watchmaker from England, and recognized as the most important watch-making advance in recent times. The coaxial escapement Read the rest of this entry

A SMILE ON YOUR DIAL?

A dial is, arguably, the most important visual feature of a watch. Irrespective of the excellence of the movement or its timekeeping qualities, if the dial is badly discoloured or flaking it makes the watch look sub-standard, tired or worn out and certainly diminishes its value.

Often Collectors are put off by flaking and badly discoloured dials on otherwise quite original Omega Read the rest of this entry

looked at Jerad's for this same watch which was priced at $4800.00. Bought it at Amazon for $2600.00. I was somewhat skeptical about whether it would be a genuine Omega for that much less in price so I called them. They told me they ordered directly from Omega and also the Jewelers marked them up drastically. These watches do not depreciate. They constantly go up in price. These watches are heirlooms. My wife bought me a Omega Seamaster in NYC last year and paid $1800.00. I want a chronograph Omega Seamaster next and guess where I'm going to buy it. AMAZON
Sams Club listed this watch at $3582.00 plus tax!

This is a stunning watch that commands attention. Amazon really corners the market for the lowest price AND you would not be paying a few hundred more for sales tax! My local Sams Club had these listed at $3582 Fall/Winter 2008 and we know they undercut the market. Now with that said.....Sam's did drop price on these in the Spring 09 as they were only brought in as Holiday merchandise and I ended up getting mine for even less than Amazon's price! (but those went fast and were a rare deal) I love my watch and you will too. The diamonds are so white and clean. It just looks classy. Not big and bulky, but feminine and just right! My husband has an Omega that he has been wearing for 15yrs trouble free. I have been enjoying a Raymond Weil Parsifal that has served me for 13yrs. Quality timepieces are built to last.
I love it!

I was very nervous buying an item this expensive on the net. I felt better knowing that it was coming directly from Amazon, since they have an excellent reputation for backing their products (as opposed to a third party seller). The watch is exquisite! Authentic in every way. It is a true heirlom, something which I will pass on to my daughter someday. The shipping was in one day, just as they promised. Thank you Amazon.
Gorgeous Watch

I was nervous buying something so expensive over the internet. However, I am so happy with my purchase. The watch is gorgeous, the price was right ($1200 less then at the local store), and the delivery was fast. I took it to our watch store to get sized, and he told me that it was an excellent purchase.
Not the watch I payed for!

I read the other reviews before it happened to me. That people had ordered the diamond bezel and face omega and received the cheeper version. I could not believe it would happen again after these complaints but it did!!!!
I opened the box to find the wrong omega in the right box!!! What is happening to quality control? Is their a thief in their warehouse? What ever, I will not be using Amazon again!!!!! They are losing a very good customer...

The Omega Story
The Omega watch story begins in 1848, when founder Louis Brandt began hand assembling key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen in his principality La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the northwest corner of Switzerland. However, the Omega name didn't appear until 1894, after Louis Brandt had passed away and his watchmaking traditions were taken over by his sons, Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt. Omega watches have long been associated with glamorous screen and sports stars--the Omega Seamaster is famous for being the watch of choice for James Bond--with current ambassadors including Pierce Brosnan, Nicole Kidman, tennis player Anna Kournikova, and swimmers Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe.

But Omega is more than just a fashionable watch. In 1965, the Omega Speedmaster chronograph was "flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions" as the only wristwatch to have withstood all of the U.S. space agency's severe tests, including passing grades for extreme shocks, vibrations, and temperatures ranging from -18 to +93 degrees Celsius. The greatest moment in the Speedmaster's history was undoubtedly 20 July 1969 at 02:56 GMT, when it recorded man's first steps on the Moon's surface as part of the Apollo 11 mission. Today, Omega is known for its rigorous testing of new movements, cases, and bands. Each new Omega movement is tested on the wrist in existing Omega models, while various laboratory tests are conducted to determine temperature-resistance, shock-resistance and vibration-resistance. Product Description

The sultry silver Omega Speedmaster Day-Date automatic chronograph watch replaces one of its chrono subdials with one that displays the date on the dial and day and month indicators within it. This precise chronograph timepiece will also help you keep track of your road training thanks to its tachymeter bezel. The large watch case measures 40mm wide (1.57 inches) and it's matched to a triple-link stainless steel bracelet that mixes brushed and polished finishes. Other features include a 44-hour power reserve, a scratch-resistant and glare-proofed domed sapphire crystal, and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)--offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.

This watch also features the Omega 3606 caliber automatic movement, which has been certified as a chronometer by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Control). Only 3 percent of watches produced in Switzerland are "chronometer-certified." To achieve this highly coveted certification, the movements are subjected to numerous tests over a period of 15 consecutive days and nights, in five positions and at three different temperatures.

How to Use a Tachymeter
A tachymeter is an instrument for measuring speed. It is a chronograph with a graduated dial on which speed can be read off in kilometers per hour based on 1000 meters distance. For example, the chronograph indicates that the distance of one kilometer has been covered in 30 seconds. The corresponding point on the tachymeter scale indicates 120, and thus the speed is 120km per hour.
